We're Here to Provide a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out

Ionia County faces a daunting challenge that many rural communities face: providing affordable homes, a vibrant community that also provides a “small-town” feel. Here at Habitat for Humanity for Ionia County we provide affordable housing in the hopes of rebuilding our community and building a stronger Ionia County.

Building Our Future

Affordable housing is vital to the success for any community. We are dedicated to providing shelter to families who need help most because we’re dedicated to building our communities, one project at a time.

Providing a Hand Up

We’re here to help families in need of safe, reliable shelter. Every home built helps develop neighborhoods which in turn creates a vibrant community we can all enjoy. We have a number of programs available to the Ionia area.

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together  to build homes, communities and hope.

About Habitat for Humanity of Ionia County

Habitat for Humanity of Ionia County is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Habitat for Humanity of Ionia County is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.  Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. About Habitat for Humanity International

Founded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate and repair more than 600,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 3 million people worldwide.

Ionia, Portland and Lakewood chapters merged in 2013. Combined they have built countless homes for their respective communities. Volunteer labor, as well as an interest-free home loan, has assured maximum affordability for low income families. Over 100 volunteers typically contribute their time to complete a home.  The family that will live in the home also contributes from 250-500 hours of labor towards its completion.

Habitat for Humanity of Ionia County is a team of enthusiastic volunteers, guided by Christian values, who are committed to assisting families in need to create a safe home to grow and educate their children. Habitat for Humanity of Ionia County strives to help families find affordable housing and enrich neighborhoods and communities.
